The Beauty of Not Knowing

“Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. … By faith Abraham, when he was called to go out… went out, not knowing whither he went.”

Hebrews 11:1, 8

I was in the middle of a big life change recently, and I had no idea how things were going to work out. I felt l had been given some direction, but couldn’t see the details. People would come up and ask me how things were going, and I would respond, “Well, all I see is a big black hole.” I knew in the end things would work out, but the hows were a mystery. However, as I was in this place of not knowing, I realized it was a beautiful place to be in, because it made me so dependent upon my God. Every prayer felt like a desperate one, every day I looked for His guidance. It’s not comfortable, you feel like you’re on the edge, but it’s there that we establish our trust in Him the most, and that’s a beautiful thing.
